Intel’s next generation notebook platform has yet to debut, but with Montevina-based notebooks expected to hit retail shelves in the coming weeks, OCZ has come out and announced its support for the forthcoming platform with the launch of its enthusiast DDR3 SODIMM modules.
The new modules, PC3-10666 and PC3-8500, feature latencies of 9-9-9-24 and 8-8-8-27 respectively and will be available in 2GB and 4GB dual-channel kits. According to OCZ, these latest memory offerings for notebooks help reduce power consumption and increase speed and bandwidth, resulting in a higher performing laptop with a slightly extended battery life. As with DDR3 for the desktop, though, we wouldn’t expect these kits to be cheap.

Microsoft touted multi-touch integration when it gave the world a first look at Windows 7 earlier this year, but Dell isn’t going to wait around for them to release their next-generation OS sometime in 2010 to start supporting the feature. In fact, their Latitude XT already has the necessary hardware to support a multi-touch experience, but starting today, Dell will offer a firmware update that will finally enable it.
The update will be offered globally via support.dell.com and will bring with it iPhone-like gesture controls – for zooming and scrolling – to a number of applications including Google Earth, Microsoft Office, Firefox, Internet Explorer 7, XP’s Windows Picture viewer, and Vista’s Windows Photo Gallery. Check out the video after the jump to see the XT in action. VIDEO IN NEXT PAGE Read the rest of this entry »
