Asus Eee PC gets spec’d out

When it comes to a cheapo machine like the Eee PC, the spec that everyone cares most about is the price. For whatever reason, Asus is still playing coy on the pricetag for the little machine, even though it’s scheduled to launch before the end of the month. They are, however, releasing final specs for the U.S. market, so you can figure out which Eee PC is right for you. On the high end, we’ve got a machine with 1GB of DDR2 RAM, an 8GB SSD, a built-in webcam and a 5200 mAh battery that will see around 3.5 hours of life. On the low end, you’ll be getting 256MB of RAM, a 2GB SSD and a 4400 mAh battery that’s good for around 2.8 hours. All machines will feature a 7″ LCD display, Intel CPU and chipset, Ethernet and WLAN, will weigh in at less than 1kg and will run either Windows XP or the Linux flavor of your choosing (neither is included). Looks like these Eee PCs are going to be fairly well-equipped for their size–let’s hope that the low-end model manages to clock in at just over two Benjamins as was promised. Mionix Saiph 3200 - the ultimate gaming mouse?

Mionix is a brand new, and Swedish I might add, company that has just launched its first products. Mionix is a gaming company focusing on the most important of all input devices, the mouse. Mionix has designed and develop two mice and two pads to go with them. Saiph 1800 and Saiph 3200 are the names of the two mice. The numbers in the names explain how many dpi the laser is capable of. Thus, Saiph 3200 has a resolution of a whopping 3200 dots per inch. Just having the Saiph 1800 model would have been impressive to be honest. Read the rest of this entry »

PowerColor Radeon HD 4850 2GB sighted

PowerColor has gone all the way with its coming Radeon HD 4850 graphics card. One of the few but often heard complaints is the fairly small memory buffer. You get rather far with 512MB, but when you crank up the resolution it gets rather easy to fill that buffer. Since GDDR3 is plentiful, PowerColor decided to quadruple the memory buffer to make sure that all of the modern games can use as much memory as the may possibly need.

On top of the increased buffer, PowerColor also raised the memory frequency to 2000MHz, and gave the core frequency a slight polish while they were at it, up to 665MHz. To make sure these increased frequencies doesn’t hurt anyone, or the card, PowerColor has installed a ZeroTherm VGA cooler that should do the trick. Price and availability is unknown.

Asus Eee Monitor pictures leaked

Seemingly official-looking pictures have emerged of Asus’s upcoming all-in-one PC and display, the Eee Monitor.

The images, which are believed to have been leaked from within Asus, are available on the French site Blogeee.net. It is hard to tell at this point what components are inside the machine, but it is likely that they will not be dissimilar to those inside the Eee Box, which is set to launch in August.

The photographs appear to show at least six USB ports on the machine, alongside standard ports like Ethernet, line-in and line-out. A webcam is integrated, as are an SDHC slot and LEDs to show Wi-Fi and disk activity. Interestingly, the PC appears to have integrated Denon speakers.

Silverstone Zeus 1200W: Designed for the Power Hungry

We recently tested the latest Silverstone Decathlon series power supply, but we also wanted to review one of their top-end models from the Zeus series. Silverstone has delivered many new features in the past, and their build quality has always been good. Unfortunately, the major addition for the Zeus family appears to be the bump to 1200W - power very few people will ever need for their system. However, the Zeus 1200W does make some changes to the voltage delivery subsystem that may be useful. Read the rest of this entry »
